Little Earth Soldiers crown children participation in Climate Summit, as children plead with President Ruto

In the midst of the historic three-day Climate Summit, hosted by the government of Kenya and the African Union, one passionate and unique group has been making waves – the Little Earth Soldiers. These young eco-warriors are not your ordinary activists; they are children on a mission to defend and save our planet, approaching environmental issues with their refreshing and enthusiastic perspectives. Representing Uganda with the aim of recruiting more like-minded young activists, the Little Earth Soldiers have captured the hearts and attention of many at the summit.

The Little Earth Soldiers are a dynamic movement of children who have taken it upon themselves to tackle key environmental issues head-on. Their unwavering dedication to Mother Earth is not only inspiring but also a stark reminder that the future of our planet lies in the hands of the generations to come. These little champions are passionate about safeguarding the environment and have brought their voices to a platform where they can be heard, appreciated, and celebrated.

The historic Climate Summit, a gathering of heads of state and government, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, civil society, and hundreds of African youths, has been abuzz with discussions on innovative green growth and climate finance solutions. However, what has truly set the Little Earth Soldiers apart is their focus on climate adaptation – a pressing priority for Africa. They understand that the challenges posed by climate change require immediate action, and they are unafraid to demand it.

Kenya’s President William Ruto rightly pointed out that Africa’s youthfulness is a powerful attribute, one that should inspire African leaders to envision a future where the continent emerges as an economic and industrial power and an effective and positive actor in the global arena. The Little Earth Soldiers embody this spirit of youthful determination, reminding us all that it is our collective responsibility to pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.

As these young activists plead with President Ruto and other leaders, their plea is not just for themselves but for all children and generations yet to come. They remind us that the fight against climate change is not an abstract concept but a battle for our shared future. The emotional urgency in their voices serves as a powerful call to action for all of us to take steps, big and small, to protect our planet.

“Mr President, my name is Maryanne (10), a Kenyan child journalist. I would love to attend the Africa Climate Summit so that I practise what my friends and I have been learning, telling our own climate stories through our own eyes,” said the journalist at Mtoto News, a digital and media platform whose mission is to make children visible was among the many children who aired their llack of participation concerns.

In the Little Earth Soldiers, we find hope, inspiration, and a reminder that we must do more to address climate change and its devastating impacts. Their participation in the Climate Summit is a testament to the fact that age is not a barrier when it comes to advocating for the environment. It is a rallying cry for all of us to join hands with these young warriors and become stewards of the Earth, for the sake of our children and the generations that will follow.

The Little Earth Soldiers are not just children; they are the torchbearers of a brighter and more sustainable future. Their presence at the Climate Summit is a beacon of hope, and it is our duty to heed their call and take meaningful action against climate change. Together, we can make a difference, and together, we can protect the Earth for generations to come.
